I’ve posted about Favia Wines before, here and here; and this wine is worth mentioning again.

Winemaker Andy Erickson and viticulturist Annie Favia (a husband and wife team) bring together the art and science of winemaking to deliver a quality product that can be enjoyed on any occasion. Favia Wines holds a favorite spot in my collection, as it is a wide portfolio that can pair with many foods and be savored by themselves. These wines can brighten up any day or special event with great balance, aromas, flavors and mouthfeel.

Their portfolio of wines includes Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Rhone blend, single vineyard Syrah, red blends, and appellation-specific Cabernet. They search out special vineyards to produce the best possible expression of the vines. Andy himself has a legacy of great winemaking success from working at such notables as Harlan, Screaming Eagle, Dalle Valle, Ovid, and Arietta. Annie has honed her skills working with John Kongsgaard, Cathy Corison, and David Abreu. She is definitely most at home with her hands in the dirt. To say the least, these two bring great artistry to life in the wines of Favia.

They have just finished a complete renovation of the historic Carbone winery located in Coombsville where they work and live. They now live over the winery and barrel room. This has been a true labor of love for them to restore and retain the history and architecture of the past while bringing the property into the present.

The winery now welcomes and hosts winery tours and tastings during the weekdays. The host for our visit was very well-steeped in both the history and the present practices of Favia Wines. Elliot was an excellent guide for our tour of the grounds. The tour included gardens that Annie tends and watches over to the pristinely preserved structures from the past. The tasting was an exceptional experience of fine wine. My favorite continues to be the Cerro Sur, which is a blend that features Cabernet Franc. The Cabernet Franc comes from vines that are almost 40 years old, which is rare to find for this varietal.

I can assure you that the wine or the time you spend at this lovely property will not disappoint you.

Enjoy!
