“Zoom In” on Winemaker Julien Fayard

This coming Saturday, April 25, there is an opportunity to sit at home and engage with one of my very favorite winemakers, Julien Fayard. Please read on for details and how to RSVP.

Julien has 20 years of winemaking experience starting in Provence, to Lafite Rothchild and Smith Haut Laffite prior to coming to Napa. Once here in the states, he worked along side Phillipe Melka. Many folks describe his work as bringing French finesse to making Napa wine. He has a deft touch in bringing great wine to life as a reflection of the grape and terrior.

I met Julien very early on and blogged about him. You can find that article here

What impressed me about Julien is his ability to let the place and grapes sing together in a bottle. The wine he makes has excellent mouthfeel, with great balance of all the components. His portfolio includes: Rose, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and of course Cabernet.

This past Saturday, we sat in on a tasting along with Julien. Like many of the wineries today, in our current environment, the winery will ship the wines being tasted and you can sip along with the winemaker. I have been on, like you may have, several Zoom events. Yet this past Saturday, it was comfortable and very relaxed based on Julien’s presence. He responded to questions, and it truly was akin to being with him in the winery at a tasting.

Julien is an amazing talent, and I have been purchasing his wine since his early beginnings in making his own wine in the valley. I have shared many bottles with friends and watched as they look back at the glass and smile. Julien is deft at his craft. It is always a pleasure to introduce folks to his fine work. There are several labels that he makes wine for, and his consulting business is growing everyday. You will find his wine under the labels of Purlieu, Covert, Le Pich, Nicholson Jones — and the list continues to grow.

Below is an invitation to join the Zoom meeting. You will also receive a discount on the wine with joining, and all I can say is that I highly recommend both the opportunity to be with Julien and to purchase his wine.

Julien and I had a wonderful time with you yesterday on our first Zoom Virtual Tasting! Thank you for being a part of our community, for asking thoughtful questions and for your ongoing support of Purlieu and Le Pich.
